Donna Marzia

2005 Salento Negroamaro

Conti Zecca Donna Marzia is a remarkable red wine crafted from the Negroamaro varietal, hailing from the sun-drenched region of Salento. This 2005 vintage showcases a deep ruby color, captivating the eye and hinting at the bold flavors within. On the palate, it presents a full-bodied character, enriched by its high acidity which offers a lively freshness that balances the wine's intensity. The fruit-forward profile bursts with prominent notes of dark cherry and ripe plum, complemented by a touch of earthiness and spice, making it an inviting choice for any occasion. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, adding structure to the wine, while its overall dryness enhances its food-friendly nature. This wine is a wonderful expression of its region, inviting exploration and appreciation with each sip.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
